German Danzig 1917 Gewehr 98 Mauser. This gun is quite interesting and is open for speculation and interpritation. Based on what we can see and determine the stock is not original 1917 and the hand gard has been replaced. The bolt and reciever are blued and not the original white. The sling is a replacement as well. This specific gun has no import marks and the recieiver, bolt and barrel match. We speculate this was a WWI used gun that was retained after the war and re arseneled. Stocks were replaced and recieiver and bolt were blued in this process. The rear rollercoaster sight was removed and the front sight was replaced in this as well as the 400 meter zero was much too much for the trench and closer range combat the guns were used in. As this gun stands it is correct for a WWI retained re-arseneled GEW98. Great item to add to any collection! Bore is in great shape with strong rifling and ZERO pitting. Some frost visable in the bore. Only real non correct parts are as follows- Reproduction Sling and handgard replacement. It is very rare to find these in non-sporterized condition.
